About Us

History
The Christian Professionals of Tanzania (CPT) was born from the spirit of solidarity among young graduates in the 1970s, many of whom were inspired by their involvement in the Young Christian Students (YCS) movement. These early members, motivated by their shared values and vision for a better society, came together to support one another in their professional and spiritual lives.
In 1983, the movement gained official recognition from the Episcopal Conference of Tanzania (TEC) as a Church organization and Apostolic Movement. This marked a major milestone in CPT’s journey, affirming its role within the Church and the broader society.
Since then, CPT has actively invited professionals from various fields to engage in public life with a Christian conscience and a commitment to justice and peace. The movement has maintained a strong collaboration with the Justice and Peace Commission of TEC, playing a vital role in social and civic initiatives across the country.
From humble beginnings, CPT has grown to become a national presence, working to animate public discourse, support social development, and advocate for the common good through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching.
