THE COST OF DEVELOPMENT

  • Feb 21
  • 1 min read

Who really pays? Who benefits? Who decides?

Development is often presented as progress new buildings, economic growth, expanding industries and rising statistics.

But behind these achievements lies a deeper question: At what cost and to whom?

In this timely and thought-provoking reflection, Fr. Vic Missiaen challenges us to look beyond economic indicators and ask whether development in Tanzania truly serves the majority. Why do so many still struggle with poverty, unemployment and insecurity while growth continues? Why does frustration among youth increase? And what kind of leadership, social policy and moral foundation are necessary for genuine national progress?

This publication is not a political manifesto. It is a call to conscience. It invites us to rethink development not only as material growth, but as human dignity, participation, justice and shared responsibility. It explores leadership as service, governance as facilitation and spirituality as the foundation for building a society rooted in solidarity and the common good.

If you care about the future of Tanzania, about justice for the poor, about youth opportunity, and about building a nation guided by moral renewal this reflection is for you.
